Hipster Bric a Brac and Trendy Trinkets

I emptied out my storage locker and realized that I have a lot of random things. Childhood memories, 1/2 started or daydream projects I never got around to doing, pieces of ‘art’ I still love but have no where to hang and so on ….

Hoping to sell most of it tomorrow!

Nailed it!

I found these rain barrels on Pinterest and have to say …. I think they turned out A-Ok!

rainbarrel2Took all of 10 minutes to make.

Happy Mother’s Day

I have a great mom. She is amazing. She had a great mom. My grandmother was amazing too. The really great thing about good parenting is that you create really great offspring.

Today I would like to thank my Mom for giving me my childhood and one super cool sister to grow up with.

Reclaim Detroit!

detroit_reclamation-12I have had a love affair with this city for a number of years. If I was a billionaire business person I would buy up most of the downtown and move my head quarters there. If Havana, Cuba is a UNESCO heritage site I don’t know why Detroit is not. Stunning Architectural history everywhere.

A friend of mine sent me this article and we are now planning our Michigan road trip! One Amish Wood Burning Stove and some amazing wood for my floors!

Reclaimed history in my home? Yes please!

Just Broken In – The Tent

I began looking at yurts online and discovered that they are really expensive. Thankfully, I stumbled upon a great Canadian company called Deluxe Wall Tents and bought myself the most beautiful 168 square foot glamping tent out there! I added on the wood burning stove and upgraded to their deluxe model so mine is equipped with a front and back door as well as two windows. If you like the look and size of my tent it is 12 x 14 x 5 wall x 8.5 peak.  jbi-bday19Everything in the tent (except the bed, pillows, sheets and duvet cover) is second hand or donated by my neighbours. I like the look of objects with a story worn into them plus I am super clumsy so it hurts less when you add a nick to something that already has a few.

The stove area which at that point was yet to be assembled. It had to be cooked for about 5 hours. Cooking a stove involves getting a huge fire going inside of it to burn off the fumes and seal in the paint. This was done the following weekend with some friend.

The tent total cost: $2600.00

Everything in the tent: $700.00 (roughly) with the bed being the biggest purchase.

Project: Kensington Market Giveaway

1/ Have art installations around Toronto to try to bring people here and to learn to engage with all people in unfamiliar territory. Thinking on your feet and creating empathy. 1 project for September and 1 project for October.

I have learnt over the last 14 years in Toronto that art is a term that one can use in whatever fashion they want. Thank you.

Art installation – Kensington Market Giveaway is in the works.

Just Broken In For June 7

SOLDjbi-1jbi-jun7.13Just Broken In. This is about to happen to my land and it is about to happen to me.

I bought 23 acres of land last October. I fell so incredibly in love that it blew my mind.   I am going to build a retreat for people to come and sit and be quiet and thoughtful. Your quiet is your call.

I’m so glad she found me for May 31

There won’t be anymore Saturday posts introducing new characters. That said since I have decided that the show was completed I have found and made about another 7 characters. I took this photo in an alley way and then found a piece that I made into one bad ass graffiti boy.

2014 backalley heartWhen the show has been finalized I will post the information here for anyone reading along in Toronto. The fact that I am this close to having my own art show makes my heart full.

Moving forward the weekends are now going to be spent heading up North to start creating my Glamping Camp Site! Next Saturday will be the first post showing what is going on with this part of my life. Stay tuned!!

Medicine Man for May 30

happy truckThe end of May was the deadline for the wrapping up of the “The I’m So Glad She Found Me” Art Show and to be honest I am surprised that everything worked out the way it did. 58 characters have been found and made. The final 52 still have to be decided on. I am currently looking for an empty shop space to hold the pop-up Art Gallery and I am feeling like this is going down sometime between August and October or at least that is what I am putting out into the Universe.  Saturday posts are now going to be replaced with trips up North to my land.

No more posts.
