Goodbye Rust, Hello 2015

In the last year of researching for this move, my style has been heavily influenced by all the beautiful Nordic design out there. Clean lines, open spaces, minimalist beautiful. Before if you asked me to define my style I would have said Rusty Urban Canadian Cabin Pretty and now I would say Nordic Beautiful, Mid Century Minimal with a touch of Canadiana.

I used to love Rust. So much that my good friend, Chris, once said to me … “You are the only person I know that when I help them move, I am glad I had my tetanus shot.”

When one decides that their next home is going to be 100 square feet one realizes how many things they own. In the next month I will have paired down my life by about a third. I used to hang this piece of art in my bathroom. It is a rusted, old metal shelf from something but the lines and rust on it reminded me of a lonely winter prairie road so I painted an electrical pole and added a quote by W.O. Mitchell about being from the Prairies. Today I decided to put it up in Trinity Bellwoods Park to share it with Toronto.

My Cinderella Shoes

gucci heelsThis summer I was wandering around Vancouver and came across the most amazing second hand clothing store ever, Timeline Boutique.

Their collection of clothing and shoes is  stellar! It was here, I found one of my most coveted second hand purchases ever – Gucci heels. The previous owner broke them in perfectly for me and Timeline broke them in for my budget. Retail 575.00, I paid 125.00!

Beautiful black with a bamboo heel. So god damn pretty that I was getting complements on them on a dimly lit dance floor.

Have a rockin’ beautiful New Year’s Eve!

All the best in 2015!!

Trade Toronto

Back when I thought this was going to be an online store I went around scooping up hot plates to make them into dry erase boards. I never did get around to the store, life happened, but I did keep the hot plates. I have always thought they were too pretty to not be shown as usable art.

Trade Tuesdays – Trade #1

I have realized that when you start thinking about living in 100 square feet you realize that you own a lot of things and use very few of them. Moving equals packing which creates piles; things to donate, for Craig’s list, to give to friends and finally to just throw in the garbage cause it can get a bit overwhelming. This time around I have a lot of time to pack so instead of feeling rushed in the process I am going to turn some of my things into memories.

The Item: 2 plants that have outgrown their pots and their space.

The Trade: I will deliver these to you on the weekend and while I watch you figure out their new home I will sit and enjoy my morning Latte and delicious baked good.

The Winner: My friend Mia. She and her partner Dave just bought a new home with lots of space. Dave is not big on indoor plants (?!?) so we thought we would start him out small.
