Love.

I love heart graffiti and have been taking photos of it for years. In the beginning of my blog I dedicated Tuesdays to these hearts and all moments of love.

This year I decided to start playing along and hung some of my heart art up in Toronto. The first one was in Kensington Market and the second one was taken down before I could even get a photo. I like to think someone took it home rather than took it down.

My third piece was hung up near Church Street.

love art - churchI have not really had a relationship with Church Street for the past 6 years but for the first 8 it was an important part of my life. In 2000 I arrived here after a year of travelling and found myself living near Church and Maitland for the first month and then in 2006 when I came back to live after a year of travelling, I again found myself on Church Street.  In the years 2000 – 2005, I partied there, met girls there, opened up and managed a Flight Centre and found out that it can be a really wonderful thing to be a gay person.

So this is my gift of thanks to a Street that showed me a lot of love.

Politics and Fashion

This week I headed over the to Design Exchange in Toronto for their show Politics of Fashion. It was a great show and I have fallen madly in love with Rudi Gernreich’s iconic bathing suit. Stunning!  I think I need to add this to my wardrobe.

I love clothing and I love certain labels but I never wear them on the outside of my clothes. Quality yes, billboard no.

The first item of clothing I remember wearing for any political stance was in Grade 10. White t-shirt with black lettering stating, “Closets are for Clothes.”  A few years later when I came out to my parents, they were not really surprised (go figure). Its always good to dip your toe before plunging in.

I learned early on the power of clothing. On days when I felt like blending in and being invisible I dressed more like a “guy.” In my more androgynous days I could all but disappear into the crowd with my over sized outfits. Now a days, its heels and tight pants. I love the empowering feeling out of being a woman in well tailored, stylish clothing. On nights when I am in the mood to cause a little commotion wherever I go, I head out in my cats pants!

Where Gay means Happy.

gay troopsChecking my email always results in me signing 2-5 online petitions for a long list of causes. One part of me is sadden by this as it means there is so much work to do and another part of me rejoices that so many people are making this space about social justice.

If you asked me what term I like best to describe my sexuality, I would say Gay Homosexual.

Years ago, we took back the word Queer.  This word did not resonate with me so I decided to take back the word Gay. Gay as in happy. I am one really fortunate gay person. I like the term Homosexual because it is scientific and sexuality is genetic. It is simple biology that differs me from you and nothing more.

I applaude these guys.

Street Hearts for June 17

toronto pink heart gay troopsI just took the photo of the pink heart.

The second photo was what it used to look like. I titled that one “Calling all Gay Troops” and used it in a post during the Russian Olympics.

I like that someone painted it pink.

Day of Thanks for March 10

ho weekly maidI like that my brain is playfully perverted. I don’t understand the global witch hunt for me right now. We should be having interesting, creative and fun sex with who ever we want. That is how you become connected and kind hearted.

Hump Day for July 10

honesty

As a gay person I like to know about the charities, companies I support with my dollars.  There are enough choices out there so I can give my hard earned pennies to someone who views me as an equal. Funny that our government does not feel the same way.  One more reason to question Harper. Something I would love to have an opportunity to do but it seems like no one really wants to talk to this man anymore. Maybe I could just have him round one night for a drink.
