Realizing that I am small

and that my land is big and that Mother Nature even bigger.

The area in front of the tent is a complete mud pit with no hopes of drying up so 3 drains are going in, the ground has to be graded and 10 more large trees need to come down so more and more sunshine can pour in and the mosquitos breeding grounds can dry up.

The deck did not settle evenly and there is a 2 inch slope down to the one corner. If you ever drop anything at least you know where to start the searching. That will have to be fixed – thinking a car jack and a couple of patio slabs should do the trick but maybe not.

I won’t be building my little artist studio this year but I will be finishing one kick ass campground and starting the prep work for the Ginger Shack to be built the following summer.

After all these years I know that it is not about sticking to a time line but not losing sight of the end line.

Priority Number 2.

When I am living up on my land this summer, my first priority is to cut down about 50 trees. I need sunlight in there so the all the years of organic rot that make up the forest floor can start to dry up.

Second priority, an outhouse.

My friends seem to think this is something a person would have built right away but, to be honest, I really enjoyed the Farley Mowat peeing out my territory game.

Interesting but I am not interested in cleaning it.

Just Broken In – The Tent

I began looking at yurts online and discovered that they are really expensive. Thankfully, I stumbled upon a great Canadian company called Deluxe Wall Tents and bought myself the most beautiful 168 square foot glamping tent out there! I added on the wood burning stove and upgraded to their deluxe model so mine is equipped with a front and back door as well as two windows. If you like the look and size of my tent it is 12 x 14 x 5 wall x 8.5 peak. Everything in the tent (except the bed, pillows, sheets and duvet cover) is second hand or donated by my neighbours. I like the look of objects with a story worn into them plus I am super clumsy so it hurts less when you add a nick to something that already has a few.

My nightstand is all about my family.

The stove area which at that point was yet to be assembled. It had to be cooked for about 5 hours. Cooking a stove involves getting a huge fire going inside of it to burn off the fumes and seal in the paint. This was done the following weekend with some friend.

The tent total cost: $2600.00

Everything in the tent: $700.00 (roughly) with the bed being the biggest purchase.
