Meet Andy.

This past Christmas, a friend introduced me to felting and I fell in love. My cat was the lucky recipient of my first work. Catnip Cupcake!!

I have been telling my friends and family to get excited for the felting gifts coming their way.

After going to the 1 of a Kind Show and seeing the work of Wendo Van Essen they should get really excited.

Her Vegan Taxidermy just took felting to another level!!

Meet Andy, my felting companion and inspiration.

Dave, the Artist

My good friends, Dave and Mia have been staying with me on and off since the beginning of February. They bought a house and are currently trapped in renovation hell…. its now known as the Death StarShip.

I live without a TV and within the first few nights Dave asked me what I do all of the time.

Simple answer, Arts & Crafts.

He took to no TV life like a champ and the results blew my mind!

The smallest travelling me, ever

Over the last 20 years I’ve been fortunate to see as much of the world as I have.

Most times when I travel, I shop. I’m a sucker for pretty things and love bringing art home from far away places.

The goal of my 14 day trip through Panama and Costa Rica was to bring home only memories and I am happy to report I did just that.

One small backpack, everything  was used, I stayed on budget and have nothing to declare. Mission accomplished.

Small space living here I come!

April’s Fool

april 1 2011

I have worn a uniform my entire working career and for the last 8 years I have sat in a decorated cubicle.

I did not see that coming.

Luckily, I have had great jobs and the most amazing co-workers so it’s never really been work.

So April Fool’s on you, Mr. 9 to 5!

My condo closed last week.

I just moved all the numbers around and it looks like I can say goodbye to 9 to 5.

Hello Ms. 24/7!

Two sides to every story

In my 20s, I feel madly in love with two women. They were night and day from each other.

In one space, I could view the world through the eyes of a 14 year old boy. The other one saw a 26 year old lesbian. I had no idea how to combine both sides of me, so neither worked.

In my 30s, I met two women who instantly reminded me of the first two.

TO-women1 TO-womenAs I enter my 40s, I am at a place where finally I am able to bring all of me to the party.  I think the next round of falling for someone is going to be beautiful.

Real Serious….

I went axe throwing for the first time last night. I was not very good but I loved it.

Check out BATL for GTA locations.

There are a lot of us….

GA-MAKE A DIFFERENCE

New Brunswick MP John Williamson from the Conservative caucus made comments about “whities” and “brown people” in the temporary foreign worker program.  Interesting language that is racist or simply incredibly inappropriate from one of our MPs

Conservative Ontario MP Larry Miller said the following on the wearing of the niqab during the citizenship oath …. “If you’re not willing to show your face in the ceremony that you’re joining the best country in the world, then frankly . . . if you don’t like that or don’t want to do that, then stay the hell where you came from,” He then went on to speak on behalf of us … ““I think most Canadians feel the same. That’s maybe saying it a little harshly, but it’s the way I feel.”

These two men hold positions of power in our country. Harper has remained silent and they still have jobs.

Justin Trudeau just  suspended two members of the Liberal Party caucus pending the outcome of an investigation of sexual harassment.

I ask you who would you rather have as our PM.

Unless you are awaiting the coming of the second messiah I would recommend voting strategically this coming year as the language that is being used in our country as of late is not language I recognize as Canadian.

In June 2014, a 24 year old man named Justin Bourque from Moncton, shot 5 RCMP officers. It was the deadliest attack on the RCMP since 2005. He is a white male who was potentially suffering from depression.

Stephen Harper did nothing to change the way we protect ourselves.

4 months later in October, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau shot and killed a Canadian solider and then stormed Parliament and was killed.  Michael was 32 years old, a drug user with known mental health issues. He claimed to support jihadists and others in the Middle East resisting the West’s intervention, but was not known to the police to be a terrorism risk.

Today I have Bill C-51 and a serious threat against Canada by ISIS?!?!

I wonder if Michael had been another Justin, another white male with mental health issues, if we would have the scapegoat that was needed to start this dangerous conversation of them and us.

I really want my beautiful mosaic of a country back.

Winter Warms My Art

BC51-13 BC51-12 BC51-8Winter is a great season, if it is short and relatively kind to us. Toronto is getting better at realizing that winter is meant to be lived in, not live through. This is the inaugural year for Winter Warming Stations in Toronto. The show was inspired by what has been going on in the city of Winnipeg at The Forks.

I was happy to be out in Toronto on a beautiful springish afternoon.

It ends on the 20th so if you live in Toronto try to make your way over there!
